The Lab-grown Meat Market is projected to reach $1.99 billion by 2035, at a CAGR of 21.4% during the forecast period of 2025–2035.

The extensive use of chemicals and antibiotics in livestock production has heightened health concerns among consumers, leading to a growing demand for organic and clean foods. Over the past decade, organic food has surged in popularity, with U.S. consumers spending approximately USD 56 billion on organic produce in 2020. Clean meat, also known as lab-grown meat, typically contains higher levels of Omega-3 fatty acids compared to conventional meat.

For the last four decades, antibiotics have been extensively utilized in livestock farming to prevent, treat, and control diseases, promote animal growth, and enhance productivity. Farmers often base their antibiotic use on economic considerations while maintaining good animal health and welfare. As intensive animal production has expanded globally, particularly in emerging economies over the past 30 years, the demand for veterinary antibiotics has sharply increased.

However, the high usage of antibiotics in food animal production raises significant concerns about antimicrobial resistance (AMR). As bacteria adapt and become resistant to commonly used antibiotics, the risk of AMR escalates, leading to the potential transmission of resistant genes and bacteria across species. Inappropriate and excessive antibiotic use speeds up the emergence and spread of resistant pathogens. Notably, many antibiotics used in animal agriculture are also employed in human medicine, increasing the risk of cross-contamination and the rise of multidrug-resistant pathogens. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that this issue could lead to as many as ten million deaths by 2050 and could reduce global GDP by 2-3.8%. Furthermore, the WHO predicts that AMR could reduce global animal production by 2.6-7.5% by 2050, with low-income countries likely facing the most severe impacts of up to 11%. As a result, health-conscious consumers are increasingly investing in clean meat products, which is expected to bolster the adoption of lab-grown meat.

In recent years, the global focus on developing alternative proteins has gained momentum. Governments can mitigate the negative impacts of traditional meat production by promoting the creation of meat alternatives, potentially generating thousands of new green jobs. Some governments have already recognized the potential in the alternative protein sector. For instance, Singapore became the first country to approve cultivated meat in 2020, while in 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced funding for its flagship cultivated protein research center. The U.K.’s recent National Food Strategy has also highlighted the adoption of alternative proteins as essential for the country’s transition. Consequently, the clean eating trend is expected to fuel the growth of the lab-grown meat market.

According to Meticulous Research®, the lab-grown meat market is anticipated to reach USD 1.99 billion by 2035, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 21.4% from 2025 to 2035.
